The worst errors on tax forms today are usually the simplest. This can mean a simple miscalculation of a single number, to a number of other factors. Always recheck your taxes a few times to ensure you don't encounter this. Errors like this can destroy your expectations, or make you overpay - which is certainly not a good thing. Another common type of error is the simplest. Is your address correctly listed on your tax return? If not, and you don't do something about it, you will not receive your refund. It's that simple. As well, is the social security number correct for not only you, but your spouse and children as well? If these numbers are correct, you may experience delays and confusion when your taxes are processed, and time is of course money. One of the simplest errors that is made on tax returns is the failure to sign and date the papers. Fact is, if you do not sign your tax return, it will be refused. Meaning you will have to wait for it to be shipped back to you and then ship it out again, and wait the required period yet again! This is a long time for most people. Another consideration you should consider is postage. Tax forms can be bulky and may not be subject to regular rates. Underpay for postage and you will receive your taxes back, unprocessed, with that added delay. If you have made any of these mistakes in the past, worry not. They are the most popular mistakes made by US taxpayers, and they continue to occur yearly. But ensuring you avoid them is the best medicine, and can mean you receive your refund sooner than you think. Once you receive your refund, it may be a time for a rethink. And, perhaps putting that refund towards your credit card debt isn't such a bad idea after all. Having issues with debt or taxes? Contact us here for a free debt consultation.
